A day that will always be remembered with our boys. Even though it rained hard the morning of April 14,
2007 the visit was enjoyed by all. The guideand instructors for the morning were Doug Spritzky, General Manager, and
Kent Kelsch Environmental and Safty Coordinator of the plant.
A video of Griffin Industries' business was shown to the group as an overview. Breakfast consisting of scrambled
eggs, pancakes, rools, biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon was provided by David and Jo Ellen Dawson.
A tour of the rendering plant, truck shop, Bio-Diesel plant and backery recycling plant was conducted.he
boys were told of the importance of recycling and environmental awareness.
Examples of this included meat by-product recycling into meat and bone meal for protein ingredients in poultry feed and
tallow for use in animal feeds for caloric value and feed stock for Bio-Diesel to be used in Griffin Industries' own trucks,
and treated wastewater for land application to hay feilds which yield high protein hay for cattle and horse feed.
Finally, the boys were given fishing rods complete with hooks, worms, and lures provided by Wells Market.
Unfortunately the weather did not cooperate to allow the boys to fish but a rain check was given for a future date. Special
thanks go to the Griffin family for supporting this group. Also the following chaperones were present to assist included Greg
Justice, Ken Hodge-Chaplin, Richard Hendrix.
